Oh man so yesterday I convinced a couple of the guys to make the crossing from Isla Margarita to Coche, cause Kris took a boat ride over they’re to film.
We made it the 16km to Isla Coche and ripped it up till like 6:00 when we had to get a ride back on the boat.   When we got to the boat it was totally full, and our other buddy who we figured we would get a ride with was staying the night.  So we decided to try and sail back.  The only problem was it was 16 km across and then we had to beat upwind about 4 miles.  We made it back to Margarita at the end of dusk.  Then the 3 of us took two huge tacks upwind as the light completely disappeared, there was no moon.   On the 3rd tack we could see the lights of the huge Hotel California in Playa El Yaque where we needed to go, unfortunately it was still ridiculously far upwind.  We decided to call it and seek other options, and landed on the beach by the Amusement Park Musipan.  Were quickly apprehended buy security.  Fortunately we convinced them to give me a ride to the front for a taxi and let my other two guys stay and pack up the gear.  The Taxi guy thought I was pretty hilarious and took me to my apartment where luckily I was able to rouse my awesome landlord Miguel and his Explorer to drive me back to pick up the gear.  I don’t think I will ever try to sail back from Coche to Margarita again; I might end up on the mainland.

wyatt, i'm enjoying your account of margarita. and the video clips on the site are great. we're just warming up and getting the energy back here in the gorge for the season. btw, any comments on matt pritchard's recent article in windsurfing mag - has freestyle really gone too far? he says freestyle needs to calm down a bit, it's too much. i know personally, that i will never reach anything near the level out there now.

I havent read prichards article, but there is no reason that freestyle needs to calm down.
We cant and should not calm down youthfull inovation, we should ecourage it!!
The limits have been pushed in skateboarding, snowboarding and wake boarding, just cause it becomes difficult for those unschooled in the names to decipher what trick has just been done, does not mean that windsurfers should stop improving. The fact that I can't do a 360 flip to frontside nose bluntslide down a 15 stair handrail on a skateboard does not mean that I don't still love doing a boardslide on my local curb.
Freestyle windsurfing has not gone half as far as it will in the future and we still have a lot of inovation to do if we are to catch up with the technical difficulty aswell as the massive number of participants found in skateboarding or snowboarding.

The old maui guys have been saying freestyle has gone too far for year.

Keep throwin loops and trying vulcans and I will keep boardsliding curbs, Just becauses there are people out there better than us does not mean the we should give up. That thinking never got anyone anywhere.

Ps you should see the switch grubby into switch flakas that gollito is doing down here, seriously inspiring.
I will try to post some photos up here soon,
Thanks for reading and settin up the freestyle debate.

I gotta see that Prichard article.

I recall Pritchard's article, but cannot find now. He made two points of note. One, that contests need to happen. Cancellations do not help the sport. So freestylers need to develop low wind moves to keep the spectators interested. The second point had to do with the frustration of not knowing the moves, not being able to see the differences. This points to the need to educate the public, photo sequences, slow video, good announcers, etc.
