Surprised
Steve and I got out yesterday in mad winds 25-50 mph I got some video but screwed up the footage with the camera on Steve riding the Bat 10. He put up his Cabrinha Switch Blade 3 8 and was way over powered. I egged him on to put up the Bat 10 and he was amazed how much more depower and control he had. He spent the whole day on the Bat 10 and has put his Switchblade up for sale. He is now a believer of the Opportunist quiver 7 Rampage 10 and 15.5 batwing. Check out the video is Windows based media player. I also met some guy there (Big guy named Chris) from Hood River who knows Bob He was really surprised to see Windwing kites He said Bob had sold him a Rampage but he didn't have them with him the guy was 270lbs and was afraid to put up his 8 m kite. He watched us all day.

Nothing Else Come Close
Holy Cow Batman...What a Day...BATWING has Super Powers...Super Natural Upwind Powers!

Saturday morning started off slow. But a good crowd of kiters showed up mid day. I was out on the water first with the Batwing 12 followed by a 14 Rebel and 17 Contra. Our plan was to kite to a group of islands approximately 2 miles directly upwind of our launch. Me on Bat 12 and Spleene 54, another kiter on 17 Contra and Spleene 59, and North Rebel 14 and North 141 board.

From about 12:00 till about 1:00 I was the only one able to tack up wind to get to the Islands, it took me several tacks. Not until after an hour or so did the other 2 kiters join me they couldn’t get far enough upwind.

A bunch of other kiters arrived and were rigging 17 meter kites C and Bows and not having much success staying up wind. The wind picked up later in the day (around 2:00) and everyone put there big kites down and pumped up 10,11, 12and 13 Waroo's Turbo desiels, Switchblades, Contras, Rebels, Vegas, Crossbows. kites, but they we’re not happy with the lulls (powered and than under powered). See Wind graph 10-25mph

I came in around 5:00 and landed the Bat 3 kiters were in shock that couldn’t believe I was riding the same kite all day. This kite has the best upwind reach of any kite I have flown and even not flow comparing to what I saw on Saturday. 3 riders, same intermediate skill level's same boards Spleene doors, all same weight and the Batwing destroyed the Contra 17 and Rebel 14 on upwind reach literally by 2 miles.

This kite has everything you would want in a high performance kite. Incredible range, low end is unbeatable upwind with a door in 10-12 mph. High end super stable and manageable in 25-30 mph. Re-launch Stupid reverse re-launch easy in 8mph (Pull both steering lines). Above 12 mph just pull one line. Jumping- it’s a jumping machine and the glide is in   read more...

Fun Session
I had a really fun sess with the Bat yesterday. Had it for about an hour and can say it's a great kite, Has all the feel of a c type, just pull the bar and go, No waiting, no oversheet no bs.

Windwing has put some serious juice on this design even has some old time scrim on the trailing edge like the old Windwing sails. A fast turner for a 12.0 so much more DEPENDABLE than my Waroo's as far as sheeting.

No waiting, no trimming ,no wierd shit at all just smooth power throughout the range cannot comment on the low end as I was happy on my 9.0 Waroo and went to the 12.0 WW so probably too much kite but very stable no flapping, no inverts, nothing hinky at all and it's better the more agressively you push it
this design IS a winner! imo Blowhard

Fantastic Batwing 12m
This is an exceptional kite.

It appears to be built like a well made Swiss watch, panel layouts leading stitching, one pump, and several rigging options. Solid bomber proof construction .Very well designed.

Last Saturday I put the kite in the air around 12:00 PM this was a very nice day the winds came up around 1:00 and stayed very steady for the entire afternoon (See Graph) the kite is exceptional stable in light wind with no tendency to Hindenburg or fall out of the sky. It needs around 6mph to stay in the air with very little input. I was able to stay upwind in 10-12 mph on my Skywalker 135 light wind board, soon as the wind picked up to stead 12 I was on my 130 Skywalker tearing upwind.

This kite screams upwind like no other I have flown, it’s really amazing how much further the upwind angle appears to cut.
Up till now my favorite kite was the Rampage 2 9.5 after flying this kite I have a new favorite kite. I have not had a chance to fly it in higher winds but I can’t wait to test the top end.

This is a really fun kite to fly its amazing stable, but fast and responsive at the same time. Relaunch is even easier than the Rampage 2 which was stupid easy to relaunch. Even in light wind under 10 mph pull one rear line and the kite just turns up on it side in relaunch position. This kite really put a smile on my face it’s really fun to fly.

I certainly think there’s going to be a lot more very excited Batwing riders very shortly.  Mike Conroy, New Jersey

Well Done
This 12m batwing Is very impressive.  Not sure what to say except that it seems to fly really well , jump really well, handle gusts really well and turn really well.  I wouldn't know what to do if I had to make a better kite.   Dave Fine, Australia

Keeping them!
I got the 12M and 15.5M and fly both Yesterday ,and the wind was frist 17 -20 drop to 14-17 and back to 17 -20   I am 60kg board 120x39.
Frsit out the Bat 12M, bar pressure was light, turning speed is fine for the 12M ,it jump high and foatly the power from the kite is very smooth and the kite is very stable in the air. When the wind drop to 14, I took the 15.5 out. The pull from the 15.5 is powerful and when the wind back to 17 -20, I got some nice high foatly jump. I had to pull the depower strap all the way when the wind hit 20. So the 15.5 for me with 2 board, as long as the kite stay in the air 7 to 8 knots (have not try yet) to mid 20 .
The kite looks and fly great  and i am keeping them, can't wait for the Batwing 9m. Joseph Ng Vancouver, Canada

BAT 12m REVIEW
The kite is certainly unique in design and has a couple of features not commonly found on other kites. The design feature I am most impressed with on this kite is the ability to depower without the use of pullies or fifth lines.... Munteruk Sydney, Australia

Can't Wait... - Sunday, June 01, 2008
Just returned from denmark. had some very nice sessions on the Bat! I have used it in very light winds with a 140x44 board and from session to session i liked it better.

My favorite setting for very light wind is the 4th knot on the pigtail of the backlines. Frontlines setting is big air. This way the kite turns quicker and i can get the best out of it by working it up and down.

The 12 has the wingspan of a 14m bow kite and for that size it turns very fast. It works fine with a 50cm bar but i also found that a bigger bar (i used 54cm) gives you some extra juice in light winds. Next time i will try a 60 cm bar :)

In light winds i had the smallest kite on the water along with one other 12m bow kite (core rio) and some 14 and 16 kites and i was upwind of most other kiters most of the time.

It is very stable in the air, even if the wind is not kiteable the bat can easily be relaunched and stays in the air. In marginal conditions the bat can be easily oversheeted and then stalls. To prevent a stall all you have to do is sheet out and it regains stability.

The bat is a great kite, has smooth and linear power delivery. If you edge harder the kite gets very fast and flies close to window to pull you upwind like crazy.

It has a great bar feeling.  I haven't  flown a kite yet which feels more comfortable. Light bar pressure, quick turner, you always know what the kite is doing without looking.

Jumping is very easy. Not difficult to get the right timing. The bat pulls you up high and long. The Rampage2 pulls you up faster the bat is more gentle. I haven't tried the bat in higher winds though.

After 3 sessions i won't trade the bat for nothing! Can't wait to spend more time on the water with my new toy!

Another Batwing First - Friday, May 30, 2008
Another Batwing first at Rush Lake, Utah yesterday evening after work...........8-20+ winds from the South/SW made for some challenging conditions but no problemo for the BW 15.5 and Misfit 146 combo.  Stayed up wind quite easily while others were challenged though they were on 13m Bests and shorter boards.

Definitely love my BW as it really seems to eat up wind variation. Jacob Busianis from Best was quite surprised to see my large board and kite combo, that I could hold down the Batwing with such a large board given the gusts that we were experiencing.  I mentioned the great depower-ability of the Batwing as the reason.

Given the fact that I live in a state that has variable wind with pretty gusty conditions at times (both Winter and especially Summer) I do rely on the depower of my kites to get by, especially with the large Batwing.

As always, thanks in advance for the advise and guidance on my WW's and kiting.  The more I use the Batwing, the more I really love that thing and given the improvements you are making to the bridle for 2009, it is only going to get better!!!  I am having a hoot on the water and am looking forward to seeing you guys the week of July 21st.

Awesome! - Tuesday, July 24, 2007
Well, here it is :  The 12m is awesome, but way to much power for me and my riding style.  I let some guys try it out and the one kid, who needs to be sponsored, made it look unreal. Huge jumps, old school, heart attack - style. Was real cool to watch. Amazing power, sick hangtime and for the size pretty darn quick.

For me, I need a 9m just my style of riding. If you are looking for a kite with sick power and easy use, go get a Bat Wing. Real kick ass stable kite, all you want and expect from a kite. and it' s only a 12m, not a 15m hunk of ...

I need a 9m for what I do, but all I can say is: Windwing: well done. ! If you get the chance, try it out.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS
The 9m Batwing was able to go upwind better in the same wind. As many know the Waroo will often flap a little in the wind and lurch in gusts. The Batwing in comparison was very solid and I could tell had a bit better grunt during transitions and downloops. Robin Tigar, OR

To the Batwing!

For 2010 the Batwing continues to surprise new riders.  Packed with unique design evolutions, these new kites have impressive and memorable performance improvements.

Batwing 15.5 and 12 continue to be major players in lightwind performance. Lighter and more efficient for light wind conditions, these kites comes with improved bridles for faster turning, redefined TE scallop to improve upwind performance and even wider windrange.  The new Bats jump higher, with longer hang time and a water relaunch easy enough for beginners.

The newly sized Batwing 10, (for its kick-ass power) is a sportster and has a set of foil vents that keeps it from back -flying while tuned for maximum performance. It has huge wind -ranges, quick turning, easy relaunch and motors up -wind better than kites that are bigger by 2 or 4 meter.  This revolutionary kite displays many high-tech evolutions and redefines performance, safety and simplicity in a convoluted marketplace. Your thrill-level  and aeronautic capabilities will have some serious mojo behind them.

In our quest for flight, Batwing is the most avant garde flying machines we have built , Da Vinci had the basic format and we improved upon it ...

Form Follows Function and  Batwing's  virtuosity is evident when one looks skyward.

1) Foremost on the Batwing is the use of Windwing's new ABS Kevlar and carbon Aramid fiber scrim material that scallops the trailing edges of the kite and it's wingtips. The shape of the scallops provides the Batwing with its dynamic appearance, which is the result of a specific functional innovation. How could we not call it "Batwing" ????

The functional innovation of the scalloped Batwing material evolved from the simple conclusion that different materials have different frequencies of vibration. In theory, as the kite moves through the air, the difference between the soft spinnaker cloth and the stiffer laminate material acts like dimples against a polished golf ball. The strategically placed and shaped trailing edge on the Batwing, provides a stable rigid surface to recapture the laminar airflow for smoother wake release. The result is a livelier "slippery" kite that flies faster, goes up -wind better, generating more lift in less wind while holding shape where (and when) it counts. The Batwing flies forward, backward, upward, downward and enjoys all of the characteristics of the Caped Crusader. With incredible de-power and precision control, free parking anywhere in the wind-window can be found with easy self-launch and self-land options at minimal risk.

2) Swallow Tail: The cutout notch at the center strut is designed to give the Batwing a high- aspect feel with low -aspect power. The swallow- tail separates the kite in half and changes the load -point away from the trailing edge. This stabilizes the kite, as the notch creates unique, dynamic aileron-like protrusions that allows flow and twist at the center of the kite and gives the Batwing a self-adjusting reflex capability in all conditions. The design process of our pioneering Swallowtail technology has evolved to a larger cutout on larger kites which makes for some serious skywriting.

3) Bob Batten: (Windwing's unique wingtip, which is found on the larger Batwing sizes). We baptized this innovation formally as the "Bob Batten"(complete with holy water). Inspired by Boardingbob's idea of having a venetian blind-like substrate to serve as built- in battens, this added rigidity not only helps prevent deformation for heavier riders, it gives the wingtip a direct-drive leverage to turn the kite. In larger kites and in lighter winds, this efficiency is absolutely crucial. No biffs.

4) Multi-Inflation-System with a Clamp (MISC): will greatly improve the quality and safety of your kiting experience. These optional inflation systems can be quickly installed or removed from the Batwing. The new clamp allows the tube to be pinched, isolating each bladder, preventing total deflation of the kite.

These four key innovations make the Batwing the safest, most technically advanced performance driven kite in the world.

In addition: The new Batwing 10 has a set of foil vents that has brought our technical advancements in the bigger Bats to the smaller sized kites. This baby Bat packs amazing power and range! You will have to fly it to belive it.
