The Amazing 1 Kite Quiver!
How is it possible?
That Kite is marked wrong!

Saturday

I put my Wave runner in the water for the season and decided to take a ride out to kite Island, there was no wind and it was forecasted to be a light wind day so I wasn’t planning on kiting.

I took my gear anyway, along with my friend who just purchased a new light wind kite Contra 14. My friend just wanted to see how his new kite flew and wasn’t planning on riding. I launched him in winds 5-9mph the Contra was stable and stayed in the air in that low wind, he was flying it side to side sheeting it in and out for a bit. (From 2:30 till about 4:00)

I decided to see if my Rampage 9.5 would fly in these low wind so I self launched while he was flying his kite. Well the Rampage stayed up and seemed to have a little power I didn’t think it was enough to ride but I decide to give it a go with my Light wind Skywalker. Well much to my amazement I was up on a plane moving the kite and fairly aggressive I was not staying up wind at all but I was riding both tacks downwind.

Here’s what I experienced 2 kiters me 185 Lbs on a Rampage 9.5 and 135 Skywalker board and my friend 150lbs on Contra 14 riding a Slingshot Glide board, also a light wind board. Both of our skill level is about equal.

I was barely planning downwind both tacks and he could not get on a plane. I find this very hard to believe but this is what happened. My friend was not very happy with his kite purchase. He insisted my kite was marked incorrect. In my opinion the reason I was able to get on a plan was because my kite was much faster than his. So much for bigger kites.  Mike Conroy (NJ, United States)

Hightimes
I got mine in last week, after a lot of thinking I decided to order one. (They have a 30 day money back guarantee)

Well I was surprised how this kite performs. I've tried it 3 times, did some unhooked on it, feels like a regular C. It feels a lot like the older Yarga's do nice grunt. The difference is that they have a huge wind range, and that they depower all the way. I've used it in light winds till about 22knts no problem so far. Bar pressure is perfect you can control it easily with one hand. It turns good, feels like a C .  I have a Wakeboard and a skimboard, with these boards this could be a one kite quiver.  It has no pullys and almost no bridles.

PS. Relaunch is quick, the traditional way.

Great Kite!
What a great kite this is. I been kiting for 4 years and instructing for 2 and I have ridden almost every brand of kite out there. My favorite kite till now has been a 11m Sonic2 so I will compare the Ramp2 to that. The R2 has a bit more bar pressure but still very low and has way, way more bottum end than the S2 which I thought was amazing. It turns faster and jump higher and is very easy to control in the air. Thanks Jonathan for all your help you guys at Windwing are great. See you at the coast soon I am so stoked to get this kite in the waves. Big%20smile Brian Bailey, Canada

Most impressive kite I've ever flown
Flew the 9.5 windwing rampage II for the first time at Golden Gardens last night, was out from 5 to 7. Several other kiters were out in the marginal conditions on 13-16 meter kites, but most were struggling to stay upwind. It didn't look like people were doing much better at carkeek. The 9.5 with my regular twin tip and 23m lines kept me easily upwind and jumping. I've been kiting long enough to become jaded enough to think a 1 kite quiver is impossible, but I guess I was wrong. The kite easily relaunched when I crashed it (forgot I was on such a small kite when I was looping it). It has a real simple bridal that doesn't look like it can get tangled, so it should be awesome for abusing in some double overhead waves on the coast. Definitely the most impressive kite I've ever flown.   read more...
Rampage 9.5 Review!!
First abit about me. Been kiteboarding since '99 and a sponsered rider with Best for almost 4 years. Known for going huge (50' +) and strapless surfing on just about everything. (surfboard, skimboard, wakesurfer) My heart lies in the surf. I have been a PASA instructor since '01 with 2 schools. 1 is Island Surf and Sail in New Jersey and the other is "The Other Side" in the Florida Keys.

Here we go. I got to test the Rampage 2 thanks to Xtreme and boy was I surprised. Awesome!!! The build quality is top notch as WW always is with a very well layed out conopy design. The bag is great as it's strong with many zipper options and plenty of room. Not too much netting which on other kite bags I have found to be a pain in the butt on windy days. Out of the bag the kite is as everyone would want it. No loose stitching or lack of quality or workmanship. The single point inflation is very nice although I have never had a SPI system, it made pumping up the kite quick and easy. Once pumped up, I liked the bridled design as there was no pullies to get stuck and a short front bridle that would be nearly impossible to get stuck on the kite if rolled thru. Rear connection point is direct. Set-up was as easy as anything. Iput the kite up, figured out how I liked the kite tuned and I was gone.

The kite is abit lower aspect than I am used to but that didn't let me down. The first session on this kite was a true high wind test. Most people try a kite in lighter winds to get used to it but I like to test kites in high winds to get used to it first. Winds SSW 25-35 mph gusting to 40. Board was a Spleene Rip 134. It did what it was suppose to. Nothing wierd or scary. Super stable. I rode it on a 55cm Best bar as I am used to it. Perfect for me as I love fast kites. Airs were 40'+ off waves wit   read more...

I am soooo stoked with the kite...This kite certainly replaces my 12m and 8m. It took me a couple of goes but now i start to know all the adjustments i would definatly say i am getting out in less wind then my 12m C kite would've allowed. Dave Fine N.S.W. Australia

No Fuc_ _ way! 12/29/07
...It does appear that this kite could be a one kite quiver for me....My first impression, this is by far the best kite Windwing has produced so far.

GO ON A RAMPAGE!

Windwing 's Rampage II...developed from years of insight and knowledge, has morphed again! This line of user-friendly, safe, all-around performance kites just got even better. Named rAMPage, because it is an AMPed up version of our popular, Rage and Rage II kites, this year's Rampage II is even more reliable, cost-efficient and user-friendly than ever.

PARK AND RIDE

With the advent of the flat kite revolution, many people felt that the new kite designs went too far. This led to problems of instability, over-flying, disastrous inversions, sliding turns, and kites that, requiring much more skill and attention, were just harder to fly (despite the increased sheeting range which brought safety and range never before known to kiting). We have exorcised the capriciousness right out of our kites and what is left is a park and ride innovation, ready when you are.

Windwing's pioneering spirit has advanced the evolution of kiting in releasing the Rampage and soon after, the Rampage II. It's refined canopy profile combines the best of both the flat kite and the traditional C kite. This allows the advanced rider to immediately feel at home on the Rampage II, while the beginner can enjoy the safety of a flat kite which is much easier to fly and a lot more responsive and rewarding. The amazing upwindability of the Rampage II allows the advanced rider unreal upwind angles on twin- tip or surfboard (allowing he or she to catch more waves) while the beginner will get their 1st upwind sooner than ever, thereby reducing the dreaded "walk of shame." For 2010,  The Rampage II comes with the Batwing technology including the Bob Battens on the wingtips. Also, you will notice that all Rampage II's will have curved trailing edge wingtips to prevent lines from catching.

The huge sheeting range gives this kite a wide wind-range and provides an excellent "gust -busting" ride in the worst of conditions. This range will also simplify kite selection for the beginner, and saves $$ while allowing the advanced rider to stay out on the water in widely varying wind conditions all on the same kite. Opening the possibility of the one kite quiver...no more wardrobes...no more kite du jour...after all, there is only one wind. Windwing.

FEATURES:

1) Trailing Edge X-ply
2) Built in Wingtip Battens
3) Simple effective bridle
4) Flat/ C blend profile canopy
5) Excellent production of apparent wind
6) 2/1 pump option
7) Durable glued and triple stitched flat seams

BENEFITS:

1) Faster and more slipery kite. Better airflow management
2) Lighter easier to maintain
3) Less tangle, no pulley to break or check. Less drag, providing faster kite
2) User friendly, better re-launch, less chance of inversion, more traditional feel
3) Allows wider range
4) Ability to separate Leading Edge from struts. Faster set up. Option to choose one pump or not
5) Stronger durability and smooth canopy for fast efficient airflow

Currently available in 4 convenient sizes (5m, 7m, 9.5m and 12m) (small, medium and large, respectively), your purchasing power prevails in the simplicity of a one or two-kite quiver.

Q&A with Boarding Bob (Click on question for answer) Minimize
Q.  I have a question that you may be able to help with, am I missing anything by not having a copy of the Rampage II instruction booklet here is my experience with Windwing kites?

Here is my experience, I currently have the Rage II kites and CC Bar, I'm very familiar with the Kite set up and bar operation. I just purchase a new Windwing Rampage II 9.5 with B-safe bar and the instruction booklet must have been lost as it wasn't in the kite bag. I looked on the Windwing website and it covers the instructions on the tuning the kite. The B-safe bars is a little different compared to my old CC-Bar but principle is the same, with the leash attaching to the center line D-ring and optional grab handle?

I can't wait for the weather to clear and wind to try out the Rampage II. Any additional tuning advise is appreciated.  Thanks, Pete
Q.  Sound good Bob. Do you have any recommendations on line attachment point for the best kite performance? I'm going to look on WW kite forum too as their was some talks about rampage 2 tuning. Thank for the input and bar safety leash. It's an awsome looking kite and I haven't had the chance to fully unroll and inflate it. This will be fun first time out hopefully here in the near future. Thanks, Pete
Q.  That's great info Bob... I will go through those step before heading to OBX for the first time with new kite. Thank for the tip. Happy flying. Pete
Q.  I got a chance to fly the 2010 Rampage II 7m on Saturday in winds 17 to 37 mph I was riding the Batwing 10 for about 3 hours before I put up the 7 Rampage, I noticed straight off the bar pressure was substantially higher on the 7 Rampage. It did seem like there was more bar pressure than my previous 7 Rampage.(possible a different setting) I just flew the kit with the settings from the factory. The rear pig tail setting was on the front pick off. On my old Rampage 7 I keep the pig tails on the rear pickoffs. The new Rampage has only 2 attachment points the old had 3 Question If you move the pig tails forward does it increase bar pressure? I will move the pigtails to the rear my next time out. The kite seems to have a slightly different shape at the trailing edge, did you make a change.

Another question on the front pig tails there are 3 adjustment knots at the top of the kite near the leading edge pickoffs. The middle knot is currently being used, what changes in flying style by moving in or out a knot?

My assumption is if I move in a knot the kite will become slightly more C shape, if I move out a knot slightly more flat. Is that a correct assumption? Doe's moving it in also increase the bar pressure? I did use the highest knot on the rear pig tails (Closest to the kite) on Saturday one knot down may have been a better choice. Just trying to find out why there's more bar pressure than the old 7? Mike
